The world's geopolitical landscape is shifting, and the signs are everywhere. In Brazil, thousands of Ford vehicles have vanished from a production plant, while Chinese-made BYD cars are becoming increasingly common on the roads. This quiet transition points to a much bigger story about shifting power and the slow but steady decline of one nation's influence in favor of new global alliances.


This shift is rooted in the BRICS+ coalition, a group of emerging economies that hopes to rival the U.S.-led G7. What began as a simple acronym for Brazil, Russia, India, and China has grown into a powerful bloc of ten countries, united by a desire for a "multipolar world"—one where geopolitical influence isn't centered on a single power.


The group’s origin was far from political, initially coined by a Goldman Sachs economist in 2001 to highlight the growing importance of emerging markets. But over time, the name was embraced by these nations, leading to their first summit in 2009. The coalition has since grown to include South Africa and, more recently, Indonesia and others. But despite their shared goals, can this diverse group truly unite to become a meaningful global force?
