Stepping into the theater to catch the latest bloodbath from director Simon McQuoid, I was honestly a little hesitant after the bumpy 2021 reboot. But this sequel brings the heat, throwing us right back into the brutal tournament with a roster of familiar faces and fantastic newcomers. Karl Urban steps into the iconic shades of an aging Johnny Cage, bringing a gritty, Steven Seagal-esque swagger to the role, while Josh Lawson returns to absolutely steal the show as the unapologetically vulgar Kano. But does a flawless victory in the combat department completely mask a severely bloated storyline and questionable pacing?
