After more than half a decade of rumors, delays, and speculation, Spotify has finally launched lossless streaming — and it’s included with Premium at no extra charge. This long-awaited addition brings FLAC-quality (up to 24-bit/44.1 kHz) music to Spotify Premium members in over 50 markets, rolling out now through the end of October. For music fans, it means a major leap in audio fidelity, rivalling Apple Music and putting subscriber value in the spotlight.

Spotify Lossless is available for mobile, desktop, tablet, and many Spotify Connect-compatible devices including major brands like Sony, Bose, Samsung, and Sennheiser, with support for Sonos and Amazon on the way. The feature isn’t enabled automatically—you’ll need to turn it on in your Spotify app’s settings for each device and choose the quality level you want for Wi-Fi, cellular streaming, and downloads. When it’s active, you’ll see a new lossless indicator in the Now Playing view to confirm you’re getting the high-res treatment.

It’s important to note that true lossless streaming works best on Wi-Fi with wired headphones or speakers—Bluetooth can’t pass the full lossless signal, and your device may need a moment to cache the file. Spotify’s approach gives users total control, including data usage breakdowns for each audio tier, from low to lossless, so listeners never risk going over their limits unexpectedly.
