If you thought a running shoe’s job was just to bounce and grip, think again. Nike has unveiled a pair of bold new footwear visions: one that adds robotic assistance to your steps and another that claims to “alter your mind” via your feet.
First up is the so-called “powered” model (under the project name Project Amplify). Imagine a shoe that acts a bit like an e-bike for your feet: motors or robotics built in to boost your walking or running efficiency. According to the company, this is aimed not only at athletes but also at helping those with mobility limitations.
Then there’s the “mind-body” line called Nike Mind. These are sneakers and mules designed to stimulate sensory zones under your feet—22 independent foam nodes in each sole, acting like pistons or gimbals as you move—so your brain supposedly wakes up, focuses, gets in the zone.
